The Types of Cement Available Nowadays and Their Uses

The substance that we use to bind the bricks is known as Cement. The history of cementing substances is very fascinating. There are a number of companies like ACC Cement which are pioneers in cement manufacturing.

There are a number of different types of cement available in the market but they all can be categorized into two major types that are hydraulic and non-hydraulic.

The hydraulic cement sets in the presence of water which non-hydraulic cement sets in the absence of water by reacting with the carbon dioxide in the environment.

There are 10 main types of cement which are commonly used these days:

  • Rapid Hardening Cement: It has a high concentration of lime. It acquires strength in the early days and often used in the locations where support needs to be removed early.
  • Quick setting cement: It has a small percentage of aluminum sulphate which accelerates the process. It also contains reducing the percentage of finely ground gypsum. It is mainly used in locations where work has to be completed in short period of time.
  • Low Heat Cement: It is made by reducing tricalcium aluminate. This cement is mainly used in massive structures like dams.
  • Sulphates resisting cement: It is prepared by maintaining the percentage of tricalcium aluminate below 6%. It increases the strength of the cement against sulphates. It is mainly used in locations where water and soil damage is possible to line canal lining.
  • Blast Furnace Slag Cement: It of prepared by grinding the clinkers with 60% slag. It is often used in locations where the budget is low.
  • High Alumina Cement: It is prepared by grinding melting mixture of bauxite and lime. It is used in the locations where high temperature, frost, and acidic action can be a possibility.
  • White Cement: It is prepared from the raw material free from iron oxide. It is costlier and often used in the places which are visible like the face of the wall or precast curtain wall.
  • Colored cement: It is prepared by mixing color pigments with the cement. It is widely used for decorative purposes.
  • Pozzolanic Cement: It is prepared by grinding pozzolanic clinker with Portland cement. It is mainly used in marine structures like sewage walls.
  • Air Entraining Cement: It is prepared by adding agents such as resins, glues, sodium salts of Sulphates etc during the grinding of clinker. It is used as frost resisting cement.
  • Hydrographic cement: It is prepared by adding water resistant chemicals and has high workability and strength.

Companies like Shree Cement have expertise in most of the above-mentioned types. It is very important to choose the best company so that your building lasts for long period of time.
